Black Ops: ‘Wager’ Mode to Bring on the Vice

Black Ops: ‘Wager’ Mode to Bring on the Vice

Joe has had one major complaint about video games since I’ve known him. He wants to be able to bet things. Lots of things. Be it real life money, achievement points or some sort of in-game currency: Joe is willing to give it away to people with superior skills, faster aiming and deeper knowledge of the game.

If the upcoming Wager mode – new to Black Ops and announced last night – had been in Modern Warfare, a game we’re famously bad at, we’d be out on the street. Luckily, Wager mode doesn’t include any exchange of real money. We’re so bad sometimes, we still probably belong out on the street.

There are a few different sub-modes to look forward to in Wager mode, luckily none of them involve a straight up death match.

One in the Chamber: This seems like the ‘Who’s going to hide, without moving, until right at the end when they’ll walk out casually and shoot the real victor in the back of the head’ mode. It also sounds quite good fun.

The idea is that you start with only a single bullet in a pistol. When you kill someone, you get another bullet.

Sticks and Stones: This is the back-to-basics mode. You begin with a crossbow, a tomahawk and a ballistic knife. This is the one for people like me who think they’re better with unusual weapons than they actually are.

Gun Game: You progressively get better weapons in this game, getting better with each kill you acquire. The person who gets to the best weapon (No doubt the weapon you start off with in the Multiplayer mode) will be the winner, but watch out for knifers. If you’re stabbed then you go back down to the original tier.

Sharp Shooter: This mode has all the players sharing the same type of weapon, which will randomly swap-out to a different weapon after a set amount of time. After each kill you’ll earn a perk.

So, who’s ready to lose some money?

    This…sounds…incredible.

Here’s my idea for a wager mode. Everyone bets a number of…whatever you bet in this game before a match begins. Every time you kill someone in a regular match, you get a playing card. At the end you have a few seconds to look through, make your best 5 card poker hand, and then 1 round quickly proceeds as it would in poker, with people raising, re-raising, and folding. In the end, it goes to a showdown and the guy with the best hand wins all the marbles.

It would only take a few seconds at the end of a round and would be completely awesome. Where can I submit this idea?

Man Black Ops just keeps looking better and better every time I see it. I guess I’ll have to pick this up as well as Medal of Honor. Damn you Treyarch, you’ve got me again!

I agree, this sounds awesome. “Gun Game” brings me back to my old Counter-Strike 1.6 days. I swear half my high school years were spent in de_dust2.
