Sony have today announced that the Gran Turismo series has sold a fantastic 60 million units over it’s entire lifespan. That includes copies of Gran Turismo 5.
In only 12 years, 11 months (They were quite precise), Gran Turismo has sold almost as many units as there are people in the UK. That’s a fairly impressive statistic. They also included sales for each of the games so far and it’s interesting to see that almost each game has sold best in Europe. Gran Turismo 4 has the best worldwide sales with a little over 10 million, but GT5 is rapidly catching up with over 5 and a half million units sold in only 12 days.
It’s worth noting that outside of the titles not released in North America, the PSP version of Gran Turismo sold worst. In fact, it didn’t even manage to sell half as much as the next best. A grim indicator of things on the handheld market or just because people who own PSPs don’t want an in-depth Car simulator?
Despite fantastic sales, Gran Turismo 5 still splits critics worldwide.

I bought Gran Turismo PSP! Now I feel accomplished, but I don’t know why.
